This is a common myth around here. For the record I've used a 24 Watt
adaptor with a 280, 2300c, and PB 2400, all without trouble (the
adaptor is about seven years old now and happily running a 280 in the
other room). You may see the battery charge slower while the computer
is being used, but that's the only difference. Note that none of
these computers actually *needs* to draw more than 24 W, an
observation you can check for yourself with Jeremy Kezer's Energy
Strip CS module. If you did have problems on your machine with a
specific 24 W adaptor, that particular adaptor may be suspect.

Also, the Type III doesn't require more or less power to charge. It
has a larger capacity for total charge, but it has pretty much the
same charge/discharge characteristics as the other Duo batteries. It
certainly doesn't warrant a heftier power adaptor. All of the Duo
batteries are NiMH (the LiON battery in the 2400, on the other hand,
can charge and discharge more quickly and so could theoretically be
charged faster - but it still doesn't require it, and given less
power availability it'll simply charge slower). I suspect you could
power a G3 powerbook or iBook just fine with the 24 W Duo adaptor -
the only exception is if you were powering something from the USB or
Firewire bus (in which case the battery would slowly drain instead of
charging, but the machine probably still wouldn't crash).

I'm not sure what features you're specifically referring to here, but
this really hasn't been my experience either - I've found the Duos
fun to experiment with, which is probably one reason I keep coming
back to them. They're built like little tanks. ;)
