>My 270c ( a color Duo) runs 7.1 using Duo Enabler 1.0.

Thanks for the correction - I was pretty sure I'd been able to boot
my old 270c with the 1.0 enabler. So only 68040 Duos require the 2.0
enabler, and all the 68030 models can run from either version.

>My 280c can't run on 7.1. It requires system 7.1.1 and Duo Enabler 2.0.

I didn't know that, but then I pretty much always immediately update
to the latest point version. I doubt there's more than one thing in
the update that's actually needed other than the enabler. Or perhaps
you're just referring to the presence of an automatic installer
script that can recognise the computer? In that case you can always
manually copy the system over and add the needed enabler.

Actually, you should be able to do exactly that. I admit I haven't
tested it recently (haven't used floppies for anything in years), but
I have, for instance, copied a vanilla 7.1.x installation to a Duo's
emergency partition and added only the Duo Enabler to it (with a 230,
270c and 280).

No, you can definitely turn one 7.1 install set into another just by
replacing the enabler. I have used a 68030 Duo set on a Centris this
way, for instance (again this was a folder set on a hard drive rather
than real floppies). That was actually the whole point of making all
those enablers for each computer. :) The rest of the system is
common code.

Try copying the enabler to the boot disk and see if it works. You may
also need to boot from the Disk Tools disk afterward and manually
copy over the enabler file, if the installer script wasn't aware of
your Duo type.
