Hmmmm....why does this always happen to me? Anyways, I think that you are
confusing my 2300's screen issues with another lister's screen
issues. (the person with the 1" vertical stripe...)
Anyway, my 2300's display is horribly garbled upon startup. When the happy
mac comes on I can see about 9 different copies of it. Essentially, the
grey portion of one image covers the happy mac of another and they all end
up kind of ghosted. I'll try to take a picture of it tonight. When the Mac
OS Splash Screen shows up, I can see about 9 copies of the "8.6" in "MacOS
8.6". This still happens if I hook my 230's screen up to the 2300, so it
doesn't appear to be my display.
Someone suggested that I run Techtool Pro to test the VRAM. If I do this
in the dock, the only monitor that appears is the external one (big
surprise) because the LCD is disabled in the dock. If I try it using only
the LCD, I can't see anything to start the test. If I plug it into my
E-machines etherdock and select the LCD as the monitor for the test, it
never finishes. (I assume that the machine freezes.) I started the test
one evening and 24 hours later it hadn't completed. Now, Techtool has
various VRAM tests. The ones that are binary numbers "00000011", for
example, complete successfully, but the "Rotational" "Minor March" etc
tests take forever, and it finally gets stuck on the last one, "Major
march." So, I am at a loss. Techtool doesn't find any components bad with
the "Multitester" or whatever it is called.
Tom
PS: The etherdock is still available for sale for those who might want
it.
