No, not nearly enough even though it seems it should be.

Yes, I and several other listers have had similar experiences. I've probably
brought back both my 2400s from about 50 GLOD/NLODs--both of mine are
constantly thrashed. Let me go a little further now in GLOD advice, (since
I'm tired of GLOD problems and going into deep lurk in the coming months as
some major projects will consume all of my time). Be sure to visit Mac2400

free help.

Not likely for most. But combine this thought with my take below:

I absolutely agree. A little over $500 grabs you a second 2400c off of eBay
these days. Have a spare or test your own back to back and consider the
extra $150-200 "insurance" and "tuition" all rolled into one. A few years
back I bought a second 2400c since I live in "unsupported" Switzerland. I
gave myself the opportunity to test everything back to back, hardware and
software (upgrades), always against constant baselines. I learned a lot (as
a matter of survival). The 2400c is by far the most temperamental (but
comfortable and versatile) Powerbook I've ever come across.

As above, my experience too. I have all of my original Apple stuff still
working, despite absolutely terminal symptoms. (G3 upgrade cards can be a
problem though).

Now here'a a great knowledgeable fellow lister willing to try it for free.
(I would too if I was in the USA). How can you beat that? You just lose the
cost of 1 shipping as Chuck could send it to DT&T if he fails to revive it.

I've stated my skepticism that so many 2400s fail for MB/CPU problems.
Therefore DT&T is a last resort. Many DT&T customers have had early
"failures" on their repair(s)/replacement(s). Note DT&T replace complete
modules and do their own component level repairs. That costs you more.
I'd recommend that (after Chuck) 2400 owners with GLOD contact Paul Vail
(After Hours Consulting, NC) who is expert on 2400 repairs and used to be
one of our stalwart contributors. Paul V's gotten too busy and successful
;-) to be losing time posting here any more--BUT he does do component level
repairs on boards. That will save considerable monies. Paul's too much of a
gentleman to tout himself so let me push him into the limelight. If the MB
has a blown fuse (a minor item), he'll find it.
If you don't have the After Hours Consulting link, check out Ralph and Ash's
site <http://www.sineware.com/mac2400>
--you'll find the additional links there. I'm uncharacteristically plugging
a few parties here because all of these resources are readily available in a
way that these questions can be quite easily answered by mining the wealth
of information on mac2400's well developed web site resource (while I'm an
occasional contributor I have no affiliations).

For both of these answers, out of curiosity for our collective database/
edification, what was the GLOD diagnosis, solution and how much did the MB
repairs cost? Were the repairs itemized/documented? Also, HDs are fairly
reliable these days and usually carry 3 yr warranties (or longer. $200 gets
you 20gb and $350 gets you close to 30gb territory. What was the type/size
and problem with the HD? Were they replaced?
On the subject of hard drives, Paul Miller, you should also check the the HD
itself is properly installed. It is possible to misalign the pins, even by a
complete row. CPU & ram cards can be improperly seated. I/O board too.
Keyboard ribbons as well etc. etc.
And, considering Peter's PC card cage came back defective on a board (that
should have had another PC card cage with it) and I've had off list
exchanges with certain other listers who also soon had renewed problems, my
skepticism(s) has/have not diminished.
