Yes I tried unplugging them on both motherboards. However I believe the
switch tells the Duo to go to sleep, but they are definitely awake. The
lamps don't want to light up. It's as if they think they're docked so they
stay awake but keep the lamp is off.

As I indicated, I can see the desktop/finder if I shine a bright light on
the screen so I don't think it's a video or VRAM problem. The lamp just
doesn't seem to be getting power.

I just don't understand how this could happen to both at the exact same
time. The lamps get juice from the motherboard so I'm wondering if I zapped
a fuse or circuit on both boards by repeating the same dumb procedure.
