Did you try the hard drive from Weird in the Tones pb?  (hey, this is fun!)
Maybe a third-party hard drive with nothing to gain from this transaction
might help.  :)
If Tones had been dropped during it's lifetime, I'd give it a look for any
hairline cracks on the mobo.  It's strange that Weird had a problem with
Tones hard drive.  (hey, this is more fun!) However, it is possible that
both machines have failed video components or other parts.  Sorry I wasn't
much help,  I feel for you...
