heh. If you *really* want to do the above, here is your
cheaper/better/faster way of doing it:
1. Go buy/acquire an el cheapo Pentium system.
2. Install a Red Hat distro on it, but leave out any of the X stuff.
3. CLI your way to unix nirvana.
I will get some serious flack and flame from listsers about this but:
The problem with trying to do this on a Mac is the installation bit.
You are basically trying to put the flesh of a banana inside an
orange's skin. It can be done, but the process *will* be messy. I
have run plenty of UNIX flavors, including Linux on Macintosh and
Apple hardware... and it has rarely been easy... and it is
*certainly* not the best environment for *learning* unix! Your
frustrations will only be amplified in the process.
However doing all the above on a 'windows' machine is a far better
use of *its* resources (than doing Windows, that is.) =)
