I think Tenon still sells CodeBuilder. This is a UNIX environment that runs
as a Finder application (basically, uses the memory allocated to the app as
the space to run UNIX in). To the Mac it's just another app, so there's no
real problems that I'm aware of. Doesn't have the networking capability of
a full UNIX (CB is essentially a version of one of Tenon's full UNIX
environments w/ the networking disabled.). Now, if you're looking to learn
the low level details of kernels, etc. then this is NOT for you. But if you
just want to learn to drive a command line, learn shell scripting, use 'vi'
and all that, then this would work. Not sure, as I haven't looked lately,
but you might find a copy on eBay.
