You save your Word 5.1 files onto the PC-formatted floppy. Word-whatever on
the PC should be able to read/open/use them. You'll probably have to make
sure the filename ends in .doc for the PC to recognise them natively.

Word-whatever files probably _won't_ be understood by 5.1 - since they
weren't decided/written when 5.1 came out (changing the file format every
couple of 'upgrades' seems to be another way of increasing m$'s revenue
stream).

So on the PC, choose 'File/Save as...' choose Word 5.1 (or Word for Mac
5.1??) from the drop-down, then you can open them on the Mac.

You might find it easier if you open the File Exchange control panel and
create an entry for .doc files to be opened by Word 5.1.
