You have to reformat the floppies to DOS format FIRST. Unless the default OS has been messed around with, you should be able to select a DOS format when you erase the disk. All of this is independent of whatever you are going to put on the disk. Once the floppy is reformatted, THEN you can copy whatever files you wish to it and pass it along to your DOS-using friend. When you say that you try to initialize the floppy as DOS "but it won't have it", you need to be more specific. Are you presented with the option to format as DOS, but the format fails?
