I agree with you. However, you always get more bees with honey than
vinegar. I don't know if calling them clowns is really the best tact.
I appreciate and understand your passion on this issue however, as
the 2400c stops being a portable without batteries. And... every
2400c battery out there is slooooowly...... dying. Last one out,
please turn off the lights.
Maybe we should organize a pre-buy. Develop a pre-order form for BTI
and everyone email them an order. Hopefully, the response would be so
overwhelming that they would realize that their development costs
aren't for not and continue to push ahead with this battery. As it
stands, if they don't release a battery ALL of their research and
development money spent so far IS lost. We have to convince them that
the need exists and we will support the efforts with purchases.
Sometimes companies forget, what with the next new and improved
release, that there are thousands of existing users out there. Maybe
they need a revised head count. Let's do it for them.
Does anyone have the number of 2400c produced world-wide? That's a
good start. And what percent of that total are still operational.
95%? It is a pretty tough machine. BTI must have those numbers, maybe
they have forgotten and need to re-focus and remember that they would
have ALL the market share. Possibly, they have to be reminded that
their original decision to develop a 2400c replacment battery WAS a
good choice and STILL valid.
Okay Alan, I know how to delegate. ;-) Why don't you put together an
order form and post it on the listserv. Any and all of us can then
take it and email it directly to BTI and SunRe. Next best thing to
developing a battery... developing and organizing the market for the
battery. Arguably, even more important.
Squeeky wheel and all.
Rod
PS: I am feeling a little strange emailing this as I have stopped
being an official 2400c user. However, I was for almost two years and
my heart still remains firmly in and with Duo's and the 2400. My
2400c is still out there and ultimatley it too will need a battery.
Recently, I decided to sell both my beloved 2400c and desktop
G3/7300. I bit the bullet and went for one system. I bought a
PowerBook 400 MHz "Firewire". Since I am an old Duo user
(230/280/2300) the desire to return to one system, one database etc.
was just too compelling. Still prefer the 2400c's form factor though.
What's not to like about 4.4 lbs.
