I would be careful about drawing too broad a conclusion from Bill's
experience in listing 6 batteries for sale. In my limited experience
there is a market for 2400 batteries. Whether it is large enough to
satisfy BTI is another question.

At Macworld New York last July I was told by two different BTI officials
that they were completing development on a battery for the 2400c and that
the battery would be released in October 99. In October I contacted BTI
for information and was told that there had been a slight delay but that
the battery would be released soon. I posted that information on the
list.

I read the feedback from those of you who attended Macworld SF and talked
with BTI reps. I assumed that there would be a release; it had just
been delayed.

During this entire time I did watch ebay and sometimes bid for batteries.
However, I refused to get carried away with the high bids for a battery
of unknown quality. I also ordered a new battery on line only to find
that the listing by the company was in error. When I saw Bill's posting
on the list I was tempted, but decided I could wait for a brand new
battery from BTI. Had I known then what I know now I would have
responded differently.

I like the 2400 for its portability. I use it in multiple locations all
of which have AC. My use of the battery is limited. Still, I
definitely want a back up battery.

My guess is that there are others like me who where waiting to order a
battery from BTI. When I see the battery frenzy on ebay I know there are
some definitely want batteries. Also when I read that Pineapple Computer
is "SWAMPED by interest from the mainland and Japan" in their
remanufactured 2400's I know there is still interest in the 2400.

I am writing to BTI to express my interest in the battery. I hope others
are going to do the same. Other suggestions would be welcome.
