Right now I connect via TNC to our local packet cluster which just spots
basically NE US generated spots and I telnet to a, as Bill calls them,
MegaCluster. I like the split. I can see at a glance whet the "locals" are
hearing and at the same time see what the world is spotting. My local
cluster just recently began to support telnet connections. I could now
accomplish the same thing with the much faster telnet session and completely
do away with my TNC, 2-meter "packet only" rig, vhf antenna, etc.
Additionally, as Bill, K1SM, suggested, I could open multiple sessions to
the same cluster with separate filters set for different objectives.
Clusters using DXSpider, for example, have a very powerful filtering system
at this point. Having multiple telnet session available to interface with
DXBase would give me many more options that I do not now have with one TNC
port and one telenet port. As I said before, the Internet is becoming more
important in the packet cluster world and will be even more important down
the road. I am only suggesting that I have already found one telenet session
limiting. . . . . and it appears others have also. At least Bill and I -
that two people. That's all.

Jim, W3BG
