I had the same problem with a Dell laptop running Win2K, Peter. I use a Compaq desktop in the shack, but loaded DXBase on the laptop 'cause it's direct-connected to my laser printer (have not yet networked our printers) and I'll print labels from a "mirror" copy of my database. I spent over an hour on the phone with a Dell tech rep trying to figure out what happened to my power options before it dawned on me that they went away about the same time that I loaded DXBase! It's actually not that inconvenient, I prefer the fast startup every morning, but can live with the few extra minutes. I actually don't know any IT pro who uses anything except "Shut Down." Win2K is probably more robust in this regard, but even the Dell tech rep stays away from "Standby" and "Hibernate." Meanwhile, instead of DXB's Telnet windows I use N1MM Logger and its dual VFO bandmaps as a "front end" to DXBase (ie, export Q's offline later) since the spot displays and jump-to functions are very cool.

When I spoke with Jack last year he told me that the reason suspend/hibernate is disabled is because it would interfere with the VHF packet interface.
