I'm one of this guys who always want to have an standalone version control
system. This does not have to do with my own SmartCVS (was the same with
VSS). It has to do with another point of view: within the IDE I need a low
level view (I can see, what files I touched; I can perform a diff on a file
- the only CVS command in IDEA I use). The standalone version control
system gives you a more general view about the whole project. Even in
SmartCVS you can easily see, what files need to be added, what files need
to be removed and what to commit. This you can't see in any IDE.

I believe, IDEA does not need to become a full featured version control
system (I want to sell SmartCVS ;-). It just needs to offer the basics and
concentrate on other stuff, like refactoring or what ever you think. No one
expects a Porsche to be a good car for transporting.
