Oneo f the intellij guys responded a while ago and mentioned that sometimes the 
long pauses might have something to do with mapped drives.  If you have a lot of 
mapped drives, it takes a while to do something.  I'm not exactly sure what the 
cause would be, but it would be nice to know.

I use clearcase for much of my work, which (in my environment) means tons of 
mapped drives.  Perhaps this is a reason. (although the particular view I'm using is 
a snapshot view, and Intellij is monitoring files local to the disk).
