Sir The politics that I have mentioned has nothing to do with the VC or University Admin.
It is the politics between the groups of faculty who contest in elections for the Senate and other offices. The faculty members are the ones who should concentrate more on the research etc. Unfortunately they don't. I would like to ask one more thing here, what is the criterion of promoting assistant lecturers and lecturers to higher positions in NED? Nobody cares. They automatically get promoted if they associate them selves with a political group of the faculty. Unfortunately, if you want to become an associate professor in NED, you have to become a political associate of the faculty group in power. (No offence meant to the handful of faculty members, who are there on merit; we all know who you are and we respect you like our parents). The university spends millions of rupees on sending faculty members for higher education abroad. Most of them never return. I don't think the administration and VC are responsible for this. The majority of NED faculty members are with the university for past 10-25 years. They tell us, the students, about their experience and association with NED very proudly. But NED has the lowest number of PhDs in its faculty. If NED's faculty is not interested in Research and further studies for last 20-25 years, this VC should not be held responsible for their old habits. We all know, that most of the faculty members in the Electrical & Computer Systems department (I believe same would be the case in the other deptt.) are so senior that they have become Department Chairmen more than once. How many of them have gone abroad for PHD? How many are PHD? How many research papers do they publish each year? Should we hold the VC responsible for this even? Just 2 years after passing out, I requested the Chairman of Electrical & Computer Systems that I want to conduct a series of training sessions for the final year students on Solaris Operating Systems. I was encouraged and provide time, space, resources and support to do so without much effort and hassle by the Chairman at that time, Dr. Shahid Hafeez Mirza. I could not continue the training sessions next year due to my own busy schedule. This administration and exam credit goes to Dr. Munir Hasan. I was in NED at that time. He made the whole department to re-schedule the exam. Once things got established then may be he is just maintaining it. The credit should go to Dr. Munir. I have tried once to come and deliver lectures to the students of NED on Computer and Telecommunication networks, the efforts I have to make was huge. At the end when people realized that I really want to do it then I was asked to come on the days when I was leaving Pakistan. Being the VC, he or someone from his team could write an apology letter that sorry we were not able to provide you this facility. As you mention internal politics, I believe it is his responsibility to make sure that people coming from abroad should not face it. He and his team should also have the temperament to listen complaints. Please dont say that he could not handle all these things. The point is if some one wants to do some thing for his country please let him do it. Dont make him to run away. He is not coming for any thing.
