Confused is okay, it shows you're willing to learn. I see ecofeminism
as the union of environmental and feminist perspectives with the ultimate
goal of walking lightly upon the earth with a greater understanding of
our role and what is sacred. Yes, it's anthropomorphic at times, but
through adopting a more respectful perspective of what is natural, we
can better understand what harmony and balance mean. I see feminists
as the questioners of patriarchy for the benefit of gender relations.
I see environmentalists as questioners of patriachy for the benefit
of nature. Ecofeminists see a link between the manner in which
patriarchy has subjugated women as well as the environment (as well
as many other groups...Other-ing again). That methodology of oppression
and disrespect is the issue; change that and there may be social change.
For as nasty as I think most forms of religion can be, I think an
acknowledgement of what is beyond our human capabilities is also
a key factor in changing the dominant mindset. As people have turned
away from spirituality towards the rush of patriarchy so have they begun
to show the most vulgar disrespect to the other inhabitants of the
world.
So no, I could care less about the differences between men and women,
(except that it makes interesting cocktail party dialogue) and I think
that any stimulating and constructive conversation on feminism
is degraded by perceiving only two sides, penis and vagina. yeesh,
give yourselves more credit. The issue, IMHO, for all opressed groups
in this culture is the onslaught of patriarchy in its many ugly forms.
