Al. "Feminism" is just the advocacy of equal social, economic and political
rights for both sexes. Says nothing about BEING male or female. I think
Maureen gave a great definition of Ecofeminism..
"Feminine" is a whole different word-having to do with traits and
characteristics that pertain to being female, and THAT gets pretty sticky. So
much is socially engineered....
The list is NOT Eco-feminine, which by definition excludes all men. ANd its
not about differences between men and women (although we DO get into that a
lot, don't we?)
Now, if you want to get into the feminine/masculine duality and fall into
either/or-ness, you'll be in an eternal loop. Yes we are physically
different. Yes we have different ways of looking at and reacting to the
world. But really, aren't all of us some combination of what we call masculine
and feminine charactersitics?
Characteristics, other than the genitalia we might each be attached to, are
not so discrete as I think you want to make them. Much as "nurturing" and
"caring" are ascribed to women, it would certainly be false to say that men
are incapable of these, and who is to say that the characteristic isn't
socially placed? If we started teaching our boys that being sensitive and
caring and careTAKING, and crying, and feeling is very manly, would we not
then have men who ARE all of these things we ascribe to being feminine?
So, yes we would be a lot better off working together, instead of scrapping
around with who has what and who wants what and who is copying whom....but
some things need to happen first. Women need to find their voices and men
need to hear them.
