>>>Characteristics, other than the genitalia we might each be attached to,
are
not so discrete as I think you want to make them.<<<

This reminded me of an article I read a while back in the NYT Science
section. It was written by a doctor.

We've all heard about children being born with both male and female sexual
organs. This doctor's experience was that it happens way more than people
think. When children are born like this they are usually immediately
'sexed'; ie, surgically altered to exhibit only one or the other. The point
was that in addition to male and female at opposite ends of the sexual
spectrum, we actually have a full complement of 'in-betweens', which most
people don't realize because children are sexed at birth to fit the 'norm.'

She brought up one case about a true two-sexed person. This person was
perfectly happy living as both a male and female, sexually as well as
otherwise (I suspect that in many cases someone like this would undergo
severe persecution). I recall her last thought having something to do with
the fact that in a world where homosexuality and bisexuality are demonized,
it won't be soon before people are comfortable acknowledging the 'spectrum'
nature of our sexuality.

Not sure what this has to do with ecofeminism, but I thought it was
interesting.
