I find the current American presidential and congressional debate deplorable,
however, there are many issues spinning through this miasma which may be more
universally pertinent to ecofeminist thinkers. This list appears to have a
very diverse membership and perhaps it is time to make comment about issues
such as males in political power and their apparent sexual inappropriateness
with subordinates. The American Congress and President are certainly not the
first or only individuals to make this behavior a habitual choice. I am
particularly keen to understand the thinking of any members who may represent
Ms. Lewinskey's generation. Is there an awareness by 20-something women of the
inherent power imbalance in such relationships (political or corporate) or is
there another dynamic such as emotional need, ailing family dynamics or a
different cultural agenda unique to the age group? How should educators and
parents address these issues? The daily play-by-back of the American
presidential debacle is certainly grinding and nauseating, but I have yet to
see or hear a well thought ecofemist response. I suspect that more "Bill
Clinton's" and more "Monica's" are waiting in the wings around the world. Do
the world's maturing young female adults need to become "Monica's"? How can
our sons not become "Henry Hide's" or "Bill Clinton's"?
