On Jan 26, 1999, Sandra Taylor expressed opinions which, even though
I am sure she is an excellent and well motivated person and sister
ecofeminist, shocked me!

Ecofeminism is a global movement, which takes as one of its premises the
interconnections of all life. If one is concerned about the life of
a plant, one shows alert attention if one of its larger leaves or
limbs or roots is in immediate danger of terminally poisoned, as that will
certainly spread to and weaken the rest of the plant. Ecofeminism's
other premise is that women around the world will care about events
affecting each other, because the planet is interconnected and all womens
are sisters of each other and the planet. I did not find that care
and interconnection in your statement, and would like to see more of it
in your future posts on this topic.

>2) America is not the centre of the universe.
No, and neither is the Earth itself, or the Milky Way. But to ask
electronic feminists not to discuss major events affecting feminists and
environmentalists in the United States is like asking the population
of a starship not to be concerned with events on one home planet
whose massive heavy gravity affects the orbits of all the other home
planets of the starship crew. Sandra, do you somehow believe that Gaia
does not include the US, which is the home to some of the world's largest
polluter corporations and arms merchants, many of whom are regular clients
of Kenneth Starr and his Congressional allies, and currently in US
courts fighting even the only lukewarm policies and legislative efforts of
Clinton?

A coup in the US is certainly an ecofeminist issue!!, if you think about it!
Perhaps you do not have any news of what feminists and all Americans
are struggling with to overcome on the "impeach-remove Clinton attack"
on the American democracy and social ecology. In fact, Americans
feminists have been announcing to the world, with the agreement of
many alert European and Asian feminists, that the issue of Clinton's sex
life should be of interest to no one, certainly not a nearly all male
US Congress ready to overthrow him for the benefit of their pet
corporate interests. They are struggling to avoid a coup by some of this
world's most hierarchical antienvironmentalists and antifeminists
in the US Republican party. If you think the outcome of this
struggle will not eventually affect all of Asia, its global economy, and
its global environment, I think you may wake up one morning to find that
a US parts-loaded Pakistani bomb dropped on India (or vice versa) is sending
its fallout all over Australia. Isn't that what Helen Caldicott spent her
life trying to convey to our Australian sisters and all of us? If the attack
on Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky does not "fit" her masterful association
between Penis Envy and Missile Envy, I don't know what would. Clinton
(and Gore) have moved farther to the right, in large part, to "compromise"
with and appease Clinton's Republican attackers. The coup that the US
right wing is squeezing Bill Clinton with, even more endangers our
already endangered planet.
