Gina,

In the dim dark days of 300 baud modems, some people feared that an interchange
may not make it through the phone lines.

In an effort to be absolutl sure that the VAN got the entire interchange before
the phone went dead, the ISA14 was born.

The VAN would create a TA, a Transaction Acknowledgement, indicating that they
got the entire ISA.

In these days of emails and 100MB direct connects, it seems rather quaint, but
since some people are still using Morse Code for EDI (just a joke) it is still
there, and likely will be during the Y10K cirsis in about 8 thousand years.

Hello Group
Can someone please explain what the ISA-14 is used for exactly?
The standards say '0' for No Interchange Acknowledgement Requested and '1'
for Interchange Acknowledgement Requested (TA1).
All ISA-14 elements that I have seen always had a value of '0' and a 997
acknowledgement was still sent back.
Is this something other than a 997?
Thank you for any insight.
