We too use both SAP and TLE. It is our policy to not let anyone modify
any EDI data period. As you know the EDI data is a contract between you
and your customer especially if its a PO (don't know if your CSR's are
aware of that). I assume when the change the data that your customer
service ok's the change with the customer? If we change data of any
type without a customer re-transmit, it is with their approval in
writing. On rare exceptions and only with customer approvals will we
change the translated edi data. We try not to as a rule. If you are
going to allow the change SAP would be the better place at least you
have an audit record of the change, the date and by whom if questions
ever arise. I think the customer should correct and resend to keep
their systems in synch with what your are processing. I am sure you
never have any disagreements over quantities when you are trying to
collect on an invoice that does not match their original PO.

Subject: [EDI-L] Letting Customer Service Modify Data - SAP or EDI? -
Opinions Please

We run SAP and TLE, and we currently do not allow our customer service
reps to modify any IDOC or EDI data. Our Director of Customer Service
wants them to be able to edit any "failed" data that comes in. For
example, if a customer orders an item in a wrong quantity (they order
11 when it has to be 12), the order will fail in SAP and the CSR's
will see it on a custom SAP transaction.

They want to be able to fix the data and then reprocess it. My
suggestion is to do it in SAP with a custom transaction, but I wanted
to cover all options. I don't think modifying the data outside of SAP
and processing it back in is a good solution, but I'm open to what
other people are doing.

Thanks.
