I heartily second Ken’s remarks below. If I have any difficulty understanding a recruiter over the phone I will have them e-mail me the job description. I will then make a determination if I am interested and e-mail them back with a resume if I am. The other thing I get clarified is what software and operating system the employer is providing if it is missing in the job description. Usually the recruiter is required to call the employer directly so I can gauge just how committed this recruiter is in getting me the position.
One thing I discovered of late is that my entire resume is not being sent to the hiring manager. I have a two page resume and for my last interview the manager only had the first page. I could not understand why I was being asked certain questions because the answers were all laid out on that second page. When I asked him if he had both pages he said no, so I e-mailed them to him. What a difference. I was hired shortly thereafter. Leah & Mike, I agree with both your responses. And usually the results of these type of ads are confusing interpretations and little, if litte, if any responses to the end recruiter. The candidates that do respond probably have very similar questions as Mike, with the recruiter then sorta leaving them hanging without being able to answer questions concisely or 'this is what I got from the employer'. I almost cringe when I talk to some recruiters because it takes a significant amount of time trying to get them to understand your questions AND be able to understand what they are trying to say in response. And believe me, English isn't their only problem - follow up in some cases is non-existent. It's almost like once you get your resume to them, they feel absolutely no obligation (can you say professional courtesy) to ever provide you an update and even when you do try to check, you get a sense that they couldn't be bothered with you. But I have started to get some sense of why this is. This is the way the culture in their native land is, but unfortunately they forget they're recruiting in an entirely different country and culture. And in the worse case scenario, I actually maintain my own personal 'do not contact' list because with their communication being soooo bad and their follow up even worse, it's not worth my time even trying to work with them. What these same recruiters don't understand (or perhaps don't care to begin with) is 1. these job openings are usually posted by more than one company so candiates have other options or recruiters and 2. They are just wasting their own company's money with their poor communications and even poorer follow up because they get less responses AND candidates that take a chance to work them once and have such a hard time with communications & follow up, will be way less likely to respond to future postings with the same company. But it's not my goal to try and interpret these before passing them along (I'd be forever in some cases LOL). I'm just trying to share the growing number of contacts/openings I'm getting myself. I've got a good deal of activity going myself and hopefully I won't be on the job market for very long. When that happens I usually turn off my profiles on the three job sites I follow and I don't get contacted... I have had more than one HR person ask me to "update" my resume for the work I was doing because we needed another person and they just copy it for the posting. I've never seen one do it this baldly (and badly), though. I'm going to take a wild guess that English might not be Anshul Gangwar's native tongue. OK, thanks for the qualification Ken, but you have to admit this one *is* a bit weird. For your edification (and late Friday entertainment) I'll note where it reads more like a resume than an opening: * Helped 5010 HIPAA team to carry out Gap Analysis and Mapping for products MHC, MHS, Amisys, QMACS. * Provided various innovative ideas and solutions in production environment to stabilize the existing system. * Trained and mentored new resource in ECMAP skills and brought them up to the speed * Being a PPQA, ensured the deliverables are meeting/exceeding customers expectations * Played the role of Team leader and marked Far exceeding expectations from Clients. * Implemented CMM-I Level 3 in EDI project with Zero non- conformances and been awarded star for zero non conformances. (does that mean the prospective employer wants someone to have give the candidate a gold star? Or is it that this req was mostly cribbed from the resume of someone who got a gold star?) And, in general, the use of past tense verbs (developed, worked, etc.) as opposed to conventional phrasing like "the ability to", "proficiency in", etc. Personally, i would be a bit wary of any employer or recruiter who sends out such a sloppily written opening.
