Ask anyone at IBM what happened to OpenDoc. Stability of a company and stability
of a technology are not necessarily related. If your app is tied to DB2 then
IBM's longevity is a good thing. At least until DB2 revenue declines they decide
that DBXYZ is a better marketing bet. As long as there is competition in the EJB
market place, the stability of a single vendor isn't the most important issue.

Maybe just a marketer in training :-) Clearly you haven't purchased a expensive
closed source app server and had to deal with their tech support. As others have
said, at 2 AM I'd give my first born to be using an Open Source app server. At
least I have a chance of getting some sleep soon. Same goes for when one of my
customers has a problem at 1 P.M. because of a bug in the app server. The
existing open source app servers are used and supported by people all over the
world. You'd be surprised how much good support is available at all times of the
day and night. Paid support is also available for Open Source products. While I
haven't used it, it cannot be any worse than the support offered by the closed
source vendors.
