Wes, Yes, the NORM for DATA A mode is 400 Hz width, but my HI and LO knobs are not locked out (just tap either of the 2 knobs to change to HI and LO from SHIFT and WIDTH). My DATA A filter width stays the same as I last used it, and I usually have the I/II presets with one set wide and the other set narrow and switch between them as the situation requires. Yes, I try to move the VFO so the station I am working appears near 1500 Hz on the waterfall display.
I prefer to do most tuning in PSK operation with the VFO knob - I run with the AGC on, and unlike when PSK31 started, there are now many stations running with power in excess of 50 watts, so those stations cause AGC pumping if I set the passband to the full SSB width. The presence of those "Power PSK Stations" has caused me to change my operating habits. Your choices may be different than mine, but I am quite happy with the NORM default for DATA A on the K3. 73, Don W3FPR On 12/16/2010 1:01 PM, Wes Stewart wrote: > I don't do much PSK operation but I was just fiddling with it and noted > something puzzling (to me anyway). > > Data mode A, although basically a USB mode, defaults to CW-like filtering. > The "NORM" setting is 400 Hz (my CW filter width, I guess), "Shift" is 1.5 > KHz (and very limited) and "LO" and "HI" are locked out.
