Well Chris, to answer all your well made points, I should have made the distinction between unsolicited emails trying to sell me steroids, Viagra, and pornography and the stuff I am sent to tell me of discounts and deals from places I have actually shopped. The latter I do not mind and NEVER would report those. They are legitimate and in some cases I have asked to be placed on their lists...and in all cases they provide you with a link to opt out that really works. I am talking about spammers who use masked IP numbers where you can't even respond. I once tried to respond even as if I were going to buy the product and I couldn't, just as an experiiment, and I couldn't. Now how much sense did that email make other than to clutter and annoy? That is truly junk and a waste of BOTH party's time. The .gov is after UCE -- UNSOLICITED being the keyword here. If it's against the law to call someone's phone line UNSOLICITED, then it should be for email too. I have a service which employs a laywer to warn paper spammers for me and have thus reduced to practically 0 my paper junk mail (I had to do this as I have two herniate discs in my back and now being old and alone do not like having to haul all that crap to the dump by myself!). As far as ISP's, Earthlink and Yahoo do a wonderful job of filtering for you with the click of a button, and AOL must be set up yourself... The rest is filtered locally with Emailer, yes, but I still have to visually scan to make sure no legit email is lost in the shuffle. I guess I'm sick of getting mail offering me discreet sales of Viagra, incest porn, and "penis enlargement" products (if I even had one!) and having them read at the bottom that I am "opted-in" by my own accord.....that is just infuriating and any spammer who sends me this crap is going to be reported...if you read the ftc.gov site, they even say that legally you can charge people for sending you email that is unwanted. (Not that you could collect it) Also, with paper mail, you simply put up your red flag and tell the postman that is it NOT being accepted and they will be sick of carrying to and fro. It works. Believe me. What I am frosted about is we discuss how to avoid spam on our HTML list, and this woman who is a premier spammer listens and knows how to circumvent all the efforts and freely admits it. I think she has a nerve to include herself on a legitimate HTML list where folks are making a living at making websites for people to go to voluntarily, unlike herself, who sends HTML mail crap (the worst kind) to unwilling recipients. All mail with HTML in it goes right in the dumper, believe me.
