Of course you're right - it is mostly the graphics/pre-press Quark-dependent folk who absolutely need to keep running OS9...and cases like me, a photographer who depends on a proprietary printer driver/RIP which isn't and will never become updated for OSX . That's why I scrambled to grab one of the most recent G4 Dual towers - the last Macs to be able to boot into OS9x. And I wonder how many others in my situation are doing the same. I don't believe many converts from Windows prefer OS9 though. From what I've read, most find OSX much more Windows-like or intuitive (for them) or whatever. Same probably goes for most new buyers for whom recent boxes are their first computers...if they don't stumble over the well-known scanner and printer driver MIA. It is us old Mac users who have the most trouble switching, and as you implied, it's because it is frustrating to suddenly lose all your years of experience in fine-tuning and troubleshooting Mac OS and have to start from scratch with a totally different beast - Unix. Not that many of us normal users have any Unix experience at all, sigh. That said, and apart from some GUI issues and the irritating feeling of helplessness when something does go wrong, my admittedly limited experience with OSX hasn't found it that unstable/unusable, and some things like networking are positively a delight compared to previous Mac OSs. With the new box I'll try to use OSX on a more regular basis and - ugh - crack the covers of the several Unix books I have purchased.
