I agree , mostly...
I've done a lot of tinkering with my and others' MacOS,
but it was mostly to get it to do things that it wasn't
originally designed to do. Multiple clipboards, scroll
bar improvements, automatic temp file trashing -- that
sorta thing. Very little that made the system function
in a case when it wouldn't have before.
On the other hand, I *have* seen extension conflicts
cause problems... playing with load order would sometimes
fix things... other times a nasty extension simply had to
be thrown into the bit-bucket. Norton's DiskLight was a
fine example of that. Sometimes Apple's own extensions
caused conflicts (Apple Menu Options).
In fact, I have one on my machine right now... my
admittedly antique database, which hasn't been revised
since early Systen 7, won't launch successfully unless I
turn off *most* of the extensions in System 9... I've
been unable to isolate the culprit(s). Time for the
long-delayed switch to FileMaker, I guess.
