Hogswallow. It's technologically impossible via the POP protocol for them to detect what email client you're using to connect to their POP server, and consequently they cannot control what client you use to download your mail. Moreover, they can choose which network clients they provide technical assistance for; anything outside of that range is up to you. Conversely, you are free to use whatever email hosting service you want. (Just because AT&T Broadband provides POP and SMTP service doesn't mean that you can't get an email account somewhere else.) But they can't prevent you, technologically or otherwise, from connecting to their POP server by whatever means are available to you. (Heck, you could probably telnet to port 110 on their mail server.) That their support web pages only mention Outlook Express, and not your favorite antediluvian email client, is evidence only of them being completely out of touch with the Mac customer base - if they had a clue, they'd at least be making mention of Mac OS X and Mail.app. The fact that some drone in the "the government" "agrees with you" on the basis of incomplete information and/or unclear understanding of the first principles lends no credence to your position. > Since the government seems to agree with ME, they were VERY > interested in this situation and so I think you might see a class > action suit in the near future. "The government" has nothing to do with class actions; notwithstanding, class action suits benefit nobody but lawyers, and the rest of us end up paying for it.
