>That's their claim: we can use any POP client we want, so long as we >don't need support which we did not before. The only one that does not >give me an error is OE, and like I said, if you can show me how to import >100 domains/addresses into that like you can with address books, I'll >move to it....but until then, I can't.
I don't need to show you that... because what I HAVE shown you is how to run a stream log. That means, you can run one for connecting (using any account you want, it need not be all of them) in OE to get a log of a working connection. Then run another using Emailer to get a log of a non working connection. Then, send me (or any of the others on this list that have offered to help) a copy of those logs. We can compare the two, see what is different, and potentially come up with an answer. You might be surprised that if you go back to AT&T with the proper info, showing and explaining what is going wrong, they might very well fix it so Emailer works. >Well, where does support begin and end? If we can prove they did >something to their servers that changed the way our client connects, then >the only way it can be fixed is on their end. Otherwise it is forcing us >to use OE. Which as I said, is the only one that works right now for me. >(Who knows, maybe that abominable mail.app thing works, but I don't have >time to mess with it and it won't pick up AOL) Yup, maybe mail.app does work, or any number of other clients that you haven't tried works. What clients HAVE you tried. OE, Emailer, and I think you mentioned Eudora. AT&T has publically stated that they know of a problem with Eudora and are trying to fix it (its on their web site, at least it was a while back when I was there... they might have fixed it already). You case will be dismissed in one shot... Your lawyer will stand up and accuse AT&T of making it so their servers only work with OE... AT&T's will stand up and show that in fact it doesn't work with Emailer, but works fine with 12 other mail clients. Case dismissed, you just lost. >Only because there have been tons of complaints on the BBS (which isn't >working right now) from PC users who like Eudora. Ok... so then you agree that they are working to fix Eudora... so you agree that you have NO case against them... they are NOT limiting their system to work with just OE. I'm sure if you can get enough Emailer users together to bitch, they might look into fixing it for Emailer as well... but they aren't going to bother fixing anything for a discontinued product because one or two, or even a dozen users complain. It isn't cost effective, they would just assume loose you as a customer (its cheaper) >I thought we determined that it was the send not being recognized? Or the >domain not being used with smtp verbiage? I failed at doing this because >I couldn't figure it out. Hell I'm just a stupid web designer not a geek. >:-) I don't know WHAT your issues are with AT&T honestly. The only AT&T issue that I am aware of is the SMTP connection reporting a network stream error at the end of the connection. And I already did the work to determine that it is a phantom error and should be ignored. Yes, its a tad annoying that the error icon will blink, but its dealable, and frankly is something that really should be fixed in Emailer (even if the source of the problem is AT&T, I personally really consider it a bug in Emailer because there are legit times a similar instance can occur, and Emailer should know that once it recieves an OK to its QUIT request, that the email is gone and sent, and no other errors should be reported on that session). If you have problems with AT&T connections OTHER than the SMTP Network Stream error issue, then please, lay them out again (feel free to do it off list in case others don't want to know again). I thought I recalled a problem where you couldn't collect your email as it always complained that the mail server didn't exist. I gave you some possible things to try, I thought you tried them, but honestly, I don't know anymore. I thought we left it at, there was nothing further that could be done until you submitted a stream log of a working OE connection and a non working Emailer connection. >Aha, and where is that? Their site is so slow, even on cable. I don't know the links, but I know what I was looking into the problems for you, I came across a ton of stuff that said they need an SSL connection for collecting email. I remember discussing on this list that needing SSL seemed like a really dumb idea as not many email clients support it. >I wish I could find one that did but again, it's the AOL issue that keeps >so man of us with Emailer, as well as the import accounts option being >nil in my case with 100 bloody domains to manage.. Your lack of desire to spend the effort to manually transfer 100 accounts, and your lack of desire to use AOL's webmail, or their client, or Netscape 6's IMAP interface for AOL... does NOT equal a lawsuit against AT&T claiming they only support OE. I don't envy the task of having to move the accounts by hand... but such is life, and that might end up being your only option. >I am not sure why Mediaone was not using SSL before AT & T came along? Probably because require SSL for inbound email is silly (at least in my opinion, but times are changing, and SSL does make it much more difficult for someone to watch and read your email as you download it, so it is much more secure and much more private, and AT&T has chosen to require for the safety/privacy of their users). >So you think their server can't accept other connections if configured to >accept SSL? I don't know how that works but it would seem to >me..............there would be backward compatibility seeing so many PCs >out there are so old and using W 95 Yup, there will be compatability issues. I personally think it is a bad idea to only accept SSL. I think it is a great idea for it to be an optional feature for those that want the added security, but I do think it is a dumb idea to make it manditory. But it isn't my decision to make... AT&T has their reasons for it, and that's that. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
