The Performa 6400 has two PCI slots and a Com Slot II (usually filled by
a modem).

This means you can add a PCI USB card if you want to use USB devices.

Or you can add a PCI ethernet card if you want to use ethernet... or pull
the modem and use a Com Slot II ethernet card.

Or another option is to buy a SCSI CD-R drive. You can probably get a
used external 4x or 8x drive for under $40 on ebay. Then just do your
backups to CD.

I can't make a good recommendation on what route you may want to go
without knowing a bit more about your setup, needs, and plans for the
future. If you have a G4 that already has some means of backup (ie: a
built in CD-RW drive), then you might be best going the ethernet route
and dump the files to the G4 for backup.

Or if you have some kind of USB backup device already that you use with
the G4, then go the USB card route and move the device to the 6400 when
needed.

Or if this is a one time transfer of data from the 6400 to the G4, and
you are somewhat technically inclined, then I would pull the hard drive
from the 6400, and connect it to the G4 as a slave drive, then just mount
it in the G4 and copy the files from one drive to the other. That option
is obviously free, but comes at the price of you have to know enough (or
be brave enough) to open the front of the 6400, remove the drive, change
the jumper to Slave, and install it in the G4.
