I wonder if anyone knows about this error which occurs only when checking AOL mail. If an account has no messages to be downloaded, the "Reading 1 of 0" message appears immediately below "Checking password, usually resulting in a "** Connection timed out waiting for host" error message.
Normal downloading of messages doesn't seem to be affected. I noticed this behavior soon after Verizon switched my DSL service from "frame relay" to "ATM." Don't know if it's a coincidence!
