Well, I see I'm not alone. I was just about to post the following: Today and yesterday, I have been getting the same error repeatedly when connecting to any of my AOL accounts when there is no new incoming mail. The connection log shows the following:
> Reading 1 of 0 > ** Connection timed out waiting for host > Disconnecting I have signed on with AOL's software and discovered that, indeed, there are truly no new messages. But why does Emailer try to get them when its own accounting of the number says there are zero to get? Since Emailer checks before it sends, this means that a "normal" connection will always fail if there are no new incoming messages. (Fortunately, AppleScript along with Emailer's great options allow me to send only!) I called AOL's Mac support, but, of course, they know nothing about Emailer and can offer no help. (Once upon a time, there was a "fix" that could be accomplished by sending a certain-subject email to oneself, but they say that no longer works.) Has anyone else ever seen this? (Now, of course, I know the answer to this one!) I use Emailer w/ OS 9 and a regular AOL dialup connection, and have been using AOL and Emailer for at least 7 years and have never seen this behavior. The fact that so many of us have experienced this, and all at the same time, and regardless of how we connect, certainly points to a change with AOL's mail server, no? Can anyone offer any tips? (I seriously doubt that AOL will do anything for us.)
