If, like me, you've been receiving lots of mail all these years and, equally important, periodically deleting gobs of it, too, and creating folders and rearranging those folders and deleting them, and moving messages from here to there as your needs change, then a database rebuild will certainly result in a noticeable speed-up of your Emailer program. You will find that searches take less time, for instance. And you will find a noticeable reduction in the database's size - 10% seems average. There's lots of wasted space in there after only a few months of strenuous activity. You're right, it ain't broke, which is a good thing and pleasing to behold after so much time. But there is some justification for rebuilding. I do it, when I remember, every few months and each time relish the newly-oiled feel of this wondrous machine. Oh, and I think it launches faster after a rebuild, too - or am I imaging things? I usually make a point of deleting any old mails I can discard before each rebuild, for maximum payback. (One more reason to rebuild: I like making my computer work for me - I am a mere scribe, not a Photoshop jock - and rebuilding CE is easily the most taxing job I ever ask of it. Last night, it took most of an hour to rebuild and it felt good to walk away from the machine and know that it was grinding away solidly on my behalf for all that time. Cheap thrills.) %%%%%%%%%%%%%% John W. Verity So.
