I wouldn't suggest to carry another media in your case. I don't with my iBook. >I also use [EMAIL PROTECTED] from my home computer and the PowerBook. It's a piece >of cake to sync the two computers when needed. The PowerBook is connected >to the ethernet network at home anyway. > >So it's by far easier to sync the PowerBook and the home Mac, than to >carry extra weight around. It's even much easier to NOT sync the PowerBook and the home Mac: I carry my iBook with Emailer and my DB on it too, but at home I just hook the iBook to the network and use either computer to access my mail from the iBook. If one mac is busy I use another (I prefer the 9600 with big monitors), but in any case the DB and Emailer stay on the iBook, which is similar to using any other portable media. If you can access it to copy it over the network, then you can use it from there right away instead. I do backups from time to time, but copying the DB repetitively between 2 macs for the sole purpose of USING it is pointless: if both macs are at home, then your mail is at home already, no need to duplicate it to use it, then re-sync the other way around before leaving, and forget sometimes then have to track back what needs to be exported-imported in each DB to restore synchronization, etc. Over 100 Mb Ethernet it's hard to tell the difference between local and network access (my DB+index is currently 190 MB). And I found Emailer to be immune to any disruption: network disconnection caused by a cat playing with the wires or iBook going to sleep over low battery do no more harm to the DB than system crashes during local use: none at all (it just quits telling the server was disconnected, actually it's the Finder that says that). ---- VRic ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
