I have not had any problems either but occasionally I get a response from someone saying they received a virus from me. So I felt that if had an AV program it would signal me and I would not forward an attachment on inadvertently.

Also, it's difficult to get a virus with Emailer unless you allow attachments AND click on them. I do neither.
I both allow attachments and click on them (and can't imagine not doing
so!), but I do so only with known senders and I pay a small annual fee to
my ISP for their virus scanning service.
