Ahh, I did not say OS X was impervious... just that Anti-Virus software
does nothing in OS X.

I had actually written a longer response that explained things better...
but I deleted it in favor of my two line response... because I thought
the two lines were funnier.

Basically, right now there are NO viri for OS X. But that is right now.
It WILL change in the future. It is just a matter of time before one is
written. BUT, there are a few points to think about when considering
buying anti-virus software as "insurance" for the day that a virus does
appear.

When it happens, you will be one of two people. Type A: Find out about
the virus because you read about it in a computer news listing. That
means you will have time to decide what kind of a threat it is, are you
at risk, and what if anything you should do to prevent it. So you can
worry about AV software at that point in time. OR Type B: You find out
about the virus BECAUSE you are hit with it and there was no reports in
the news to give you fore warning. If that is the case, having AV
software will have made no difference, because if no one else knew about
it yet, then neither did the AV company, which means the AV software
would not have been updated to block it, so AV software or not, you still
would have been hit.

That means, at this point in time, you are highly unlikely to be hit with
a virus in OS X because you lacked AV software. So if lacking it won't
make a difference to your threat level, why spend money on it at all.
Wait until they are out there and you need it. Don't worry about
supporting the AV company to keep it writing Mac versions waiting for
that day. When the viri appear, so will anti-virus solutions, regardless
of if Symantec or whoever has stopped writing Mac versions of their
software.
