>That happens when somebody using a PC with you listed in their address
>book gets a virus that uses OE to send spam to everybody in their address
>book using one name at random (and you're the lucky one) as sender.

The problem is, it has grown worse then that.

Now they don't just go after the address book. They go after ANY email
address accessable from the email client. That means address book, and
ALL emails in the client, even those in the deleted mail folder.

So you no longer have to be in an address book to get hit. You just need
to have your name in an email anywhere in the email client. So for
instance, if someone sends you and 20 other people a joke, and one of
those other people forwards it to 20 others without cleaning the headers
(as many windows users tend to do), and one of their 20 people thinks it
is funny and sends it to 20 more people, and one of those 20 gets
infected... you can receive a copy of the virus, or be claimed to be the
sender of the virus to others. Someone you don't know, and have never
heard of, and will never meet... will send you a virus and/or claim you
as the sender for other people to get a virus.

AND, to make it even WORSE... if the virus is not located and cured, it
will continue to send these emails, to every one it can, rotating who it
claims the sender is. So people will get multiple copies of the virus
claiming to be from multiple different people.

AND, to make it even WORSE... some stupid moron of a windows user, will
get this virus email, and 10 others just like it all claiming to be from
different people... and 10 bounce messages from people claiming they were
the sender of a virus... and so they will look at all these emails, and
be faced with amazing evidence that it is obviously a virus... and they
will double click the attachment anyway, starting the whole process over
with their computer.
