nd finally, for reliability. If you have cable TV, compare how often
your cable TV service goes out to how ofter your phone line goes out.
That will tell you which is more reliable. (for me, the phone almost
never goes out, in the 6 months I've had cable TV since I lost the
ability for satallite, my cable service has gone out twice... so in my
area, DSL would be more reliable. But this is VERY dependant on your
area... I know people who have problems with their phone lines all the
time, and never have problems with cable TV).

Hi Chris-
I called Insight Communications who had the advt. I spoke about where they said their Broadband was 11 times faster than DSL. It took me fifteen minutes to get the right party after going round in circles with electronic answering. Finally I got a human and was told their Cable was 30 times faster than DSL and it only costs $44.95 mo. with $199.95 Installation if they did it and nothing if we used their software and phone assistance. I then called SBC with whom we have our phone account and they told me their DSL is $29.95 and no installation fee. She told me Cable is 3.0 speed and DSL is 1.5 so they are not 30 or 11 times faster. Also with Cable there are many customers and that brings the speed down so that they are not faster than DSL whose speed does not fluctuate with volume of customers. Go figure.
So I guess from what you and the other Emailers say I will be going with DSL but I'm really fed up with this kind of advt. where they steer the public wrongly.
Anyway thanks much to all of you who explained all this stuff to me.
