In my area, I can get a 512k cable modem for $24 and can't get DSL 
for less than $40-50 from anyone, so that pretty much makes it easy to 
decide.  Add $7 each month to pay for the modem, which I'll own in the 
end, and it's still cheaper.
     There might be better speed with DSL, I don't know.  But the cost 
differential is significant.
     And I was able to stay with the ISP that I'd been using for dialup, 
connecting through the local water and electric utility cable to them so 
I didn't have to change email addresses.  Can't complain so far.
