There are a lot of opinions that it is better.

But until there is a client that can completely disable html, it is not 
for me. Apple mail suffers from a lack of thinking about the fine 
details. mailboxes can become corrupt, (maybe something fixed in this 
version?), and it is missing basic preferences to control what you, the 
reader, wants to see (or not see!) in email.
