>When you speak of Apple having 3 or 5% of the market wouldn't we have >to look at what percent each of th PC producers have. In other words >when we say Apple has 5% of the market and PC has the rest it sounds >like Apple is insignificant, But what is IBMs, Sony, Toshiba, Dell, >Gateway etc. shares?
Dell is the largest with about 20% of the PC market. Many of the PC players have a lower market share then Apple has (in fact, when you take into account all the white box and garage shops, a vast majority of PC makers have far far less share then Apple has) If you really factor in all the info, then no Apple is not an insignificant player. In fact, Apple has about the most influence on the PC industry out of all those involved. Not bad for a company that is constantly reported as being on their death bed. The analogy I happen to like using when Windows users say Apple can't survive off a 5% market share... I point out BMW only has 2% of the automotive market, and you don't see anyone saying they will close up shop any time soon. (and no, I didn't make that analogy up, I stole it from some article I read). -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
