Hi All: >No one said you HAVE to restart via the Startup Disk control panel. >Select the OS X system folder, then close the control panel. Go to the >Special menu and choose Restart.
Chris, as mentioned in my long winded account, Restarting from the Menu Bar (Special) created the same problem - ONLY a forced Restart worked. >>> I go to the Chooser each time and select the only printer >>> there. It does not move into the space on the right when I do if >>> that >>> means anything. (It doesn't on my iMac either.) >> >> This means that your printer was not found. >> It's not switched on. >> It's not connected. >> It's connected to a port that's not recognised (i.e. not USB). >> It's connected via a USB hub that's not supported. >> The driver is out of date for the MacOS. > >As Martin suggested this sounds like the printer is not on Actually, Garry and Martin, the printer was on, plugged into a USB port that works in OSX as well as when the machine is booted into OS9. The laptop also prints in OSX when the printer is plugged into the iMac through printer sharing. The printer (Epson R300) has OS 9 and X printer drivers installed on the laptop. It is a mystery to me why it will work booted into OS9 and OSX but not in Classic. But I am happy to let it remain a mystery and just cut and paste in the future! Thanks again for everyone's help, Tannis ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
