Been doing it for years.  BUT, I do make special provisions so 
that I can get away with it.  First, just because the signals go 
through the same connectors doesn't mean that they are in the 
same cable.  I use shielded cable for the encoders and sometimes 
the sense switches, too.  So, the motor power cables are outside 
those shields.  Also, my servo amplifiers all have filtered 
outputs, and not just little EMI filters, but brute-force 
filters that reduce the PWM signal to a volt or so.  I have 
never had any interference from this.

Are they good for 20 A per pin?  I don't think XLR-type contacts 
are rated for that.

I want a single connector, but I may not be able to get such a 
part.  So, I may have to go to two connectors, one for signals, 
one for the motor.  it just makes things a little more complicated.
