The accountant, with his attention to detail and devotion to accuracy, morphed into positions of corporate power, causing vast damage by allowing the adoption of "creative" accounting, wherein ledger books enter the fantasy realm of quantum mechanics. The computer geek, with his "gee-whiz" hardware and code fixations, has already morphed into the Director of Information Technology Systems, and, in many companies, is feared and despised for his strangle-hold on information flow and computing resources. (Oh, you want a page scanner? Sorry, only flatbed scanners are IT approved. Besides, you first need to complete an Information Technology Services Equipment Requisition form.) The full impact of putting IT guys into the CEO suite is still to play out. So who are the present-day accountants and computer geeks? Who is way down on the corporate food chain, yet stands to benefit from the increased complexity of doing business in multiple markets? Could it be the Regulatory Compliance professional?!!
