Perhaps the EMC community could use some PR. Contact the media (like
NPR) with an interesting story to educate the public about RF and such.
Maybe do it in conjunction with the ARRL. To most people RF is "magic".
And they don't like antennas- the push is to make them invisible but
work better than before. I find this a fun challenge but there is a
limit to this.
I noticed the other day that they were talking up BPL on the radio like
it is the best thing in the world. They mentioned that it could make the
HF band useless and that hams were opposed to it but that didn't seem to
faze the computer geek.

Product Safety has an implied rational self interest component. After
all
what person in their right mind would ship a non-compliant product?
Emissions has a much lower acceptability as the net benefit to
"humanity"
is at best obscure. What's really needed is a public education campaign

time to reevaluate the entire discipline?

Perhaps. We really need a CEO to be jailed for persistent refusal to
cease marketing non-compliant products, to make the point that
regulatory compliance is SERIOUS. Any suggestions for a candidate CEO?
