John, There are many members of this forum who participate in TC108 at either the IEC or national level and therefore have a greater or lesser foresight into the replacement standard for IEC 60065 and IEC 60950-1. Reasonably foreseeable future? Well, that all depends what you mean by reasonable of course... Certainly years, not months - a first consolidated draft of the IEC document (which has moved on a lot from its ECMA beginnings) hasn't yet been put together. You state as a fact that 60950 was drafted for commercially-used equipment and does not always provide relevant levels of safety for domestic applications. I disagree with you and would remind you that this standard is listed in the OJEC as an LVD standard. Everyone I know on the committee and in the Commission use telephones at home and I suspect that all of them also have or use PCs at home, products covered by 60950-1. If I thought that equipment meeting 60950-1 was not safe to use in my home by my family then I would certainly suggest changes, as - no doubt - would other members of TC108.
