"Alodine" is an international brand name for Henkel Technologies
conversion, anodizing and functional coatings.

"Alodyne" would appear to be another commercial product from the US

Both have been brought into general parlance like hoover, Xerox, biro,
sellotape...........

I agree, but this may be a cross-the-Atlantic thingy (tyre -v- tire) or
even arbitrary.  Refer to QPL-81706-16, Chemical Conversion Materials
for Coating Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys.  In blending search terms
alodine or alodyne with "mil spec", I get 1,370 hits for the former, 14
hits for the latter.
